Rent assistance and low income housing is available in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw Michigan. You can get help, including funds for security deposits, back rent, and moving costs, from several non-profits and charities across the greater Washtenaw County region.

o Contact the Housing Access for Washtenaw County (HAWC) via their website or phone for referrals to emergency aid, Michigan 2-1-1 for broader health/human services

o Connect with MSHDA Rental Assistance Programs if lists are open for federal aid.

o Local options include programs via Ann Arbor Housing Commission (AAHC) and emergency help for utilities/rent through services like Barrier Busters or general assistance via the DHHS office in Ypsilanti.

o To get on the waiting list, you must complete and submit an application for a Housing Program.

  • Pre-register your household information when the waiting lists are closed. By pre-registering, you will be notified by email when the waitlist is opened.

  • Apply for other open waitlists offered by AAAHC when they are open.

  • Review and update your information, such as email, mailing address, and phone numbers, to ensure quality communication.
